This plant can be found growing on the edge of glaciers, among the piles of stones and rocks known as moraine. In order to grow and multiply in this hostile rocky environment, alpine willowherb has developed some ingenious strategies. The plant has powerful underground roots capable of capturing water hidden deep in the rocks, and it sends out underground shoots to colonize this rocky terrain.
